Welcome to The Layland Notes

One of my lifelong ambitions is to ensure that everyone has the opportunity to pursue happiness. I aspire a world where people lead healthy and productive lives by reaching their highest ambition and fullest potential.

The Layland Notes is where I share my thoughts on some of the issues I’m focused on: education, tobacco-use control, effective economical policy, family homelessness, urban poverty, and finding cleaner, more accessible sources of energy. Additionally, I’ll share my thoughts on what I’ll refer to as “unlimited potential”.

I’m inspired by Bill Gates and his The Gates Notes. In fact, much of what you’re reading now is borrowed from his introduction.

I’m fortunate that I won the genetic lottery and was born in the U.S. - as Warren Buffett puts it. For that very reason, I get to invest my spare time and energy into focusing on these challenges. I read a lot and sometimes get to talk with truly brilliant and insightful people. I hope that some of the experts I’m learning from or working with will share their innovative ideas and breakthrough solutions on this site as well. I’ll do my best to pick their minds and share their innate wisdom.

My hope is that by providing these insights and opinions, more people will learn about the issues and actively work to overcome these challenges. I’ll also post information about other personal interests such as philanthropy (social innovation), technology, travels and books.

I hope you’ll participate by joining the conversation, sharing and stopping by often to check out the latest updates. You can also send feedback, follow along on Twitter and become a fan on Facebook and join the discussion there.
